Coming into this class, I was hesitant and quite afraid. On the first day, right when I walked in, Mrs. Kirch told us the class would be different. She explained to us how it is nothing like a traditional classroom and that we would have to get used to making changes. I was all up for it. Come into the class with an open mind and don't think negative. Give the "flipped" classroom a chance and you will find it not bad at all. As I progressed through the year, I learned how to use my time wisely and do all my work on time. It is VERY important to follow Mrs. Kirch's deadlines because it helps you succeed in the class. Do not procrastinate and do your work thoroughly and well.
Adjusting to the flipped classroom is not difficult. It is only difficult if you make it difficult. Don't be hard on the new idea and just go with the flow. Eventually, the things you do will be a daily routine. There is a lot of technology involved in this class. You don't have to be amazing at using technology, I definitely am not the best. If you don't know how to do something, just ask. You can always ask Mrs. Kirch for help of a fellow classmate. Mrs. Kirch gives up a lot of her time to help us, so take advantage of it!
The flipped classroom is a classroom that is flipped, obviously. We learn at home and do homework (or practice at school). This still means we get homework everyday, like a normal class, but now, the homework is to learn a concept or so. You will find this an advantage because you will be able to learn at your own pace. Mrs. Kirch also does small quizzes we must take in class to see how well we are doing on a certain unit. She gives us many practice problems to work on in class that we must do and get checked off. This class is very independent. You must do everything on your own (even if these things are checked) and pace yourself on the work you will get done. Throughout the year you will do many videos to explain a concept you are learning, this will show Mrs. Kirch your understanding in a concept and show yourself if you need to look through a concept more. Her classroom is based on technology, cooperation, practice, and integrity.
